The President of the United States, Joe Biden, stated this Wednesday (1st) during a campaign event that both China and Russia, Washington’s rivals, as well as India and Japan, his allies, are xenophobic countries.
“Why is China stagnating economically? Why does Japan have problems? What about Russia? What about India? Because they are xenophobic. They don’t want migrants. Migrants are what make us strong,” said the Democrat, according to a transcript of his words, released this Thursday (2). In March, Biden had made a similar speech in a radio interview.
Such events are not usually officially recorded, but are attended by journalists writing a report. The rally was aimed at Asian Americans.
“One of the reasons our economy is growing is because of you and many others. Why? Because we welcome migrants,” Biden said.
Since assuming the presidency, Biden has strived to strengthen ties with Washington’s Asian allies, especially those two countries.

Last year, the Democrat received the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, on a luxurious state visit and, this year, he also received the Japanese Prime Minister, Fumio Kishida.
The most populous country in the world and the allied archipelago are part of the Quad, a defense forum in the Indo-Pacific that faces China in the region and also has Australia as a member.
“We are the same, Japan and the United States. We may be separated by distance, but generation after generation, we have been united — the same hopes, the same values, the same commitment to democracy, freedom and dignity for all,” Biden said during Kishida’s visit in April.
