The new eruption of Ruang, in Indonesia, emitted large columns of ash that reached 19 km, in addition to the expulsion of large pyroclastic material. More than 16,000 lightning strikes were detected.
A few hours ago, a new explosive eruption of Ruang volcanowhich triggered a volcanic alert in the area and led authorities to issue a tsunami warning. The Center for Volcanology and Geological Risk Mitigation (PVMBG) warned residents living in Tagulandang Islandthe closest to the volcano, which a tsunami could be triggered by the collapse of volcanic material into the oceanas reported by Reuters.
Videos recorded in recent hours by the Indonesian disaster mitigation agency show lightning flashes just above the Ruang crater, ash clouds illuminated by the glow of lava and pyroclastic materials being projected into the air.

The agency said the eruption column reached several kilometers high, and appealed to all residents within a 7-kilometer radius to evacuate immediatelyalerting to the risk of new “explosive eruptions”.
Explosive eruptions for several weeks
Tuesday’s eruption follows a series of eruptions that began in early Aprilforcing hundreds of people to evacuate and closing the airport in the provincial capital of Manado.
The latest eruptions also caused damage to some homes and raised concerns about the possible recurrence of a new powerful Tonga-like eruption in January 2022, with planetary impact. This is a possibility, however, that should be discarded given that we are facing less powerful eruptions.
