With sword, man stabs people on the streets of London and is arrested
A man armed with a sword attacked people in east London this Tuesday (30). A 13-year-old boy died in the attack, and four other people were hospitalized. He was subsequently arrested.
According to the London tabloid “Daily Mail”, the suspect crashed a car into the facade of a house in the Hainault neighborhood. Then, with a sword in hand, he attacked people passing by on the street, including two police officers and a passerby.
Neighborhood residents reported being woken up by screams in the street. Witnesses reportedly saw people covered in blood. The man, believed to be 36 years old and wearing a yellow sweatshirt, was confirmed by authorities hours later.
“I woke up at 7am to lots of screams,” one resident told the Daily Mail. “There was a person outside covered in blood, near the station near my house. The police were trying to calm the stabber. But he continued towards the station, screaming.”
“I am devastated by the news in Hainault this morning,” London Mayor Sadiq Khan said in a statement. “A man has been detained in the alert area. Police are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.”
Khan also asked people to avoid posting images of the suspect or the attack on social media. A similar request was also made by the UK Homeland Security Secretary, James Cleverly.
