A pro-Palestine group has filed a civil rights violation complaint against Columbia University following last week’s mass arrest of anti-war protesters and after the institution called the police to dismantle camps linked to the protests. said the entity this Thursday.

Palestine Legal, an organization that seeks to protect the right in the United States to defend the Palestinian cause, called on the Department of Education to open an investigation into the university’s actions, which the group said were discriminatory against those who support Palestinians.

The university was not immediately available for comment.

Last week, the institution tried to dismantle demonstrations on campus using force. The university’s president, Minouche Shafik, even took the unusual step of asking the police to enter the site, causing the anger of many human rights groups, students and faculty.

More than a hundred people were arrested, in an incident that recalled protests there against the Vietnam War 50 years ago.

The demonstrations have since spread to other U.S. campuses, with hundreds of arrests made last week.
