The public hearing, held at the request of deputies John Daniel (PT-SE) and Father John (PT-MG), addressed complaints of alleged violations of Palestinian human rights and international law by the State of Israel, which currently occupies Gaza under the pretext of defeating Hamas.

In the official video broadcast live on TV Câmara, the man wears a green T-shirt from the political-military group and hands pro-Palestine leaflets to the deputies present, with the phrase “No to the occupation of Gaza” in the title of one of the posters. Soon after, he retreats to another part of the Chamber.

João Daniel participated in the session wearing a scarf with the phrase “Free Palestine”or “Free Palestine”printed.

The deputy stated that the Commission was carried out “for public awareness and education” on the impact of the conflict between Israel and Palestinian groups and territory. The Ambassador of Palestine in Brazil, Ibrahim Mohamed Khalil Alzebenalso participated in the meeting.

The meaning of the word Hamas

The word “Hamas” is an acronym for “Harakat Al-Muqawama Al-Islamiyya” – which, loosely translated into Portuguese, means “Islamic Resistance Movement”. The group, like most Palestinian factions and political parties, insists that Israel is a colonizing power and that its objective is to liberate the Palestinian territories from Israel’s clutches.

An Islamic organization with a military wing, Hamas first emerged in 1987. It was an offshoot of the Muslim Brotherhood, a Sunni Islamic group founded in the late 1920s in Egypt.
