A group of New York University (NYU) students attacked New York Police Department officers during a rally in Washington Square Park, this Tuesday (23), one day after officers dispersed an encampment anti-Israel attack in the square outside the campus and arrested hundreds of people on Monday (22).

In response to the government’s measure, protesters staged a “march” at the site and attacked the NYPD shouting “it is right to rebel” and “NYPD, go to hell”.

The portal National Review interviewed some of the rally participants, who linked the attacks to the mass arrests at Monday’s protest (22).

One woman, who identified herself as an NYU researcher, said she believed the arrests detracted from what could have been a “moment of education about colonization and oppression.” According to her, “It would be amazing for NYU to use this as a learning opportunity for students, who are learning about systems of oppression in their classrooms.”

Since the weekend, renowned universities in the United States, such as Yale and Columbia, have become the stage for violent pro-Palestinian demonstrations, including stand-alone events in which demonstrators were heard chanting in support of the terrorist group Hamas and expressing direct hostility towards students Jews.

At Columbia and California State Polytechnic University, in-person classes had to be suspended or transferred to virtual classes, after protesters occupied spaces at the institutions in protests against the war in the Middle East.
