Governor Fátima Bezerra signed this Friday (03), the work order for restoration works on nine stretches of state highways under the jurisdiction of the Mossoró and Pau dos Ferros highway districts. They make up Lot 1 of the State Highways Restoration Program, recently tendered by the Infrastructure Secretariat, totaling 210.5 kilometers.
The lot includes, among others, the RN-015, a stretch between Mossoró and Baraúna; the Mossoró/Governador Dix-sept Rosado section of the RN-117, and 41 kilometers of the RN-177, from Pau dos Ferros to São Miguel.
Financed by resources from the first installment of the loan under the Fiscal Balance Promotion Plan (PEF), in the amount of R$428 million, the highway restoration program covers almost 800 kilometers of roads in the State’s seven highway districts.
At the ceremony of signing the service order, held in the Governor’s Auditorium, with the presence of mayors, governor Fátima Bezerra said that this is the first of a total of three lots, whose sections were selected taking into account the precarious conditions of the floor, economic activity and the promotion of tourism.
Governor Fátima Bezerra recalled that the forecast was to start the works in June, but the deadline is being brought forward by 30 days.
The two other lots, containing 24 sections, are in the final bidding phase. According to the Secretary of Infrastructure, Gustavo Coelho, road services in the first batch will begin on three fronts: From Mossoró to Baraúna; from Mossoró to Governador Dix-sept Rosado; and from Pau dos Ferros to São Miguel. Gustavo recalled that most state highways have a “fatigued structure” because they had not undergone adequate maintenance for a long time.
“It will not be a simple hole-filling operation. In the language of road engineering, this is restoration. We will change the floor structure and carry out general resurfacing of these selected sections, including horizontal and vertical signage, which are so important for road safety”, informed the secretary.
The mayor of the municipality of Pau dos Ferros, Marianna Almeida, participated in the service order signing ceremony. “Expectations are the best possible, we have been fighting for a long time so that the services actually reach Pau dos Ferros, which is a hub city in the Alto Oeste Potiguar region. There are 36 municipalities that converge directly on Pau dos Ferros. We see, with great joy, the service order for full execution of the service to improve the lives of Pau-Ferrenses and our region”.
Road Sections
The RN-177 is one of the main routes for the circulation of people and goods in the Oeste Potiguar region. Much of the supply of goods to the cities of Encanto, Doutor Severiano, São Miguel, Venha Ver and Coronel João Pessoa passes through the section that will be restored. Furthermore, it connects part of Alto Oeste to Ceará and is used to transport students to the campuses of the State University of Rio Grande do Norte (UEFRN), the Federal University of the Semi-Árido (UFERN) and the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology (IFRN).
The stretch between Mossoró and Governador Dix-sept Rosado has one of the largest vehicle flows among state highways in the West. Oil and agricultural products are produced in the region and limestone is explored for cement production. RN-117 connects the Mossoró region to the Middle West. Another section, which goes to Caraúbas, is already on the State government’s work radar, scheduled for the second phase of the highway restoration program.
Via the RN-015 from Baraúna, the agricultural harvest from the Mossoró region is transported, with emphasis on irrigated fruit growing and cement production. “This work comes at a good time, at a time when we are negotiating the arrival of companies to our municipality”, said the mayor of Baraúna, Maria Divanize Oliveira.
