Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will undergo surgery for a hernia this Sunday (31), discovered during a routine examination, a statement from his office announced. According to information from Reuters, he will be completely sedated.
“During this period, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice Yariv Levin will serve as acting prime minister,” the statement said.
Demonstrations against Netanyahu
The Prime Minister’s absence for surgery comes amid international pressure and internal protests against the war in Israel.
On Saturday (30) protesters took to the streets in the cities of Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Caesarea, Raanana and Herzliya, demanding the release of hostages in the Gaza strip and the removal of Netanyahu. On Kaplan Street in Jerusalem, protesters called for general elections.
