The president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, published a message on the X network this Thursday (28) to respond to Javier Milei, from Argentina, who called him “ignorant” in an interview.

“I still don’t understand how Argentines, being so intelligent, voted for someone who despises the people,” said López Obrador.

Milei’s criticism was made during an interview with CNN. The Argentine president stated the following: “It’s a compliment that an ignorant person like López Obrador speaks ill of me, it elevates me.”.

In November, before Milei was elected, López Obrador stated that the Argentine was a “conservative beam”. Facho is a way of referring to a person as a fascist.

Only some excerpts from the interview were broadcast. In addition to criticizing López Obrador, Milei also called Gustavo Petro, from Colombia, a https://twitter.com/lopezobrador_/status/1773383689617211576. The Colombian government responded expelling Argentine diplomats from the Bogotá embassy on Wednesday (27).

The Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent a statement in which it stated that it repudiates Milei’s statements in an interview with a TV network, “in which he offends the dignity of President Petro, who was democratically elected.”

According to the text, Milei’s statements “deteriorated our nation’s confidence.”

This is not the first time that Milei has criticized Petro in a way that Colombians consider offensive.

In January, Colombia recalled its ambassador to Argentina for consultations. In the diplomatic world, this is a way of signaling discontent with the actions of another country.

At the time, Milei had referred to Petro as “a murderous communist” and that the president was “sinking Colombia”.

At the time, Colombia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs also published a statement saying that Milei’s statements hurt Petro’s honor and were disrespectful and irresponsible.

History of the relationship between countries

Historically, Colombia and Argentina have had good diplomatic and commercial relations. But today Argentina has an ultra-liberal leader, and Petro is the first left-wing president in Colombia’s history.

Petro even hinted at criticizing Milei in a speech in January. He stated “They attack us as communists, as socialists, that the State is the owner of the means of production. Of course, those who attack us have no idea what communism is or what socialism is.”

Petro said at the time that his government wants the means of production to be in the hands of the people and not the State.

Milei has already apologized to one of the people she cursed: Pope Francis. During his presidential campaign, he referred to the pope as a “communist” and “an imbecile who defends social justice.” However, in February, as president of Argentina, he met with the pope and stated that Francis is “the most important man in Argentina”.
