Globo and GloboNews move anchors and reporters to see with their own eyes the desolation caused by the rains
The biggest climate tragedy in Rio Grande do Sul made Globo send Gaucho journalists based in Rio and São Paulo back to the state.
Born in the city of Rio Grande, Marcelo Cosme left GloboNews’ Rio studio, where he runs ‘Em Pauta’, for Porto Alegre, where he started making live appearances.
Still from the paid news channel, reporter Mateus Marques, born in Pelotas and also a resident of Rio, appeared on a boat in flooded areas of the capital of Rio Grande do Sul.
Porto Alegre’s Flávio Fachel, presenter of ‘Bom Dia Rio’ and eventually on the bench of ‘Jornal Nacional’, returned to the city to reinforce coverage of the rescue work.
Born in São Jerônimo, Patrícia Poeta left the ‘Encontro’ studio in São Paulo and went to RS. She went on to give an accurate account of what she sees amidst the destruction caused by overflowing rivers.
Globo also sent Guilherme Balza, from Brasília, and Tiago Eltz and Graziela Azevedo, from São Paulo. The anchor of ‘Bom Dia Brasil’, Ana Paula Araújo, joined her colleagues to report directly from the South.
At different times, everyone showed emotion when interviewing homeless people and volunteers, including William Bonner, who started to anchor Porto Alegre’s ‘Jornal Nacional’, wearing a t-shirt.
They are not just journalists fulfilling a professional mission. They are eyewitnesses to sad, frightening, unimaginable scenes. Their presence reinforces the role of television news in informing the affected population and combating fake news about the climate disaster.
