Globo journalism has record audience with coverage of the tragedy in RS

The presence of anchors at the site of the floods has a major impact on television audience numbers

Globo’s commitment to intensifying coverage of the floods in Rio Grande do Sul resulted in a significant increase in audience. With the presence of Ana Paula Araújo and William Bonner directly from Porto Alegre, the broadcaster’s news programs reached notable marks, according to data from Kantar Ibope.

On Monday (6/5), “Bom Dia Brasil” obtained 9.2 points in Greater São Paulo, a feat that had not occurred since October 9 of the previous year, when the news program reached 10.1 points. The presence of Ana Paula Araújo in covering the events contributed significantly to this performance.

Night performance

“Jornal Nacional”, anchored by William Bonner in the scenario of the catastrophe, recorded its highest audience of the year with 26.3 points. This result is the best since December 11, when the news served as a preview for an important event in the soap opera “Terra e Paixão”, reaching 26.7 points.

Performance of other news programs

The other Globo newspapers, which did not have their anchors moved to the South, showed mixed results. “Jornal Hoje”, temporarily commanded by Alan Severiano, scored 11.1 points. “Jornal da Globo”, with Renata Lo Prete, had its best Monday since January with 8.5 points.

The “Encontro”, which was also broadcast from Porto Alegre, with the in-person participation of Patricia Poeta, equaled its best Monday audience of the year, with 8.2 points, highlighting the consistency of journalism in contexts of intensive coverage.

Schedule adjustments

Given these data, Globo canceled the broadcast of “Profissão Repórter” scheduled for this Tuesday night (7/5), opting to extend the coverage of “Jornal da Globo”. The content that would be shown, focused on behind the scenes of Madonna’s show in Rio, would have been considered an inappropriate celebration for the moment and will only be available on Globoplay.
