Bolsonaristas praise TV Globo’s coverage and point out a change in media perception
In the Brazilian political situation, marked by polarization and constant clashes, an unexpected turn of events surprised even the most staunch critics of TV Globo. Bolsonarists, normally critical of the broadcaster, praised the broadcaster’s coverage of an event promoted by the former president in Copacabana, last Sunday (21/4). This attitude, seen as a symptom of a change in media perception, was widely commented and analyzed behind the scenes in politics and media.

Among the Bolsonarists who expressed themselves positively in relation to the station’s coverage, pastor Silas Malafaia stands out, an influential figure in the president’s circle. Malafaia, who contributed to organizing the demonstration and gave a scathing speech against minister Alexandre de Moraes, expressed his surprise at TV Globo’s impartiality. In his words, “I saw TV Globo deliver the news naked and raw, without trying to give a negative connotation to the event and without inducing the viewer to either side. When it comes to an issue about Bolsonaro, I hadn’t seen that yet.”
It was not only at a national level that TV Globo’s coverage of the event gained recognition. Bolsonaro deputy Rodrigo Valadares (União-SE), who accompanied Bolsonaro on the electric trio in Copacabana, highlighted the relevance of Elon Musk’s testimony, scheduled to take place in the United States Congress in May. According to Valadares, Musk’s presence in such a context is a clear sign that the Brazilian situation is gaining international proportions. “When one of the most influential men in the world sheds light on the situation, it is a sign that things are escalating. And the media, as a whole, is realizing this”, highlighted the parliamentarian.
As reported in this column, Elon Musk will be heard by the Foreign Relations Committee of the United States House of Representatives. The businessman will address what became known as “Twitter files”, revealing confidential decisions by Alexandre de Moraes involving politicians and social networks. This statement promises to shed new light on relations between Brazil and the international scene, arousing interest not only from the media, but also from political and business leaders around the world.
The positive repercussion of TV Globo’s coverage of the act promoted by the former president, even among sectors normally critical of the broadcaster, signals a possible change in the way the old media approaches political events related to Bolsonaro. The recognition from influential figures, such as Malafaia and Valadares, and the expectation surrounding Elon Musk’s testimony indicate that Brazilian journalists are preparing for another attack on the PT and President Lula, on the eve of 2024 and 2026.
When the Lula government bet all its chips on TV Globo as a communications strategy, many warned that crows were being raised in the Planalto Palace.
