The president of Brazilian Communication Company (EBC), Jean Lima, highlighted, this Wednesday (3), during the presentation of TV 3.0 by the federal government, the importance of uniting the sector so that Digital TV can evolve and reach the entire Brazilian population. During the event, the Brazilian Digital TV Forum presented innovations that technology will make available to viewers.

“It is important to guarantee the permanence of all open channels on TV 3.0 and the permanence of public or state channels. Because 70% of the Brazilian population receives information through this means of communication. And then, investment is needed from the Brazilian State, the Executive, the Judiciary and the Legislature”, highlighted Jean Lima.

The data cited is from the Kantar Ibope Media survey, which also showed that Brazilians watch, on average, 5 hours and 17 minutes of television per day, and around 80% of the time is focused on linear TV, that is, it follows the programming made available by broadcasters.

The ministers of Communications, Juscelino Filho, and the Social Communication Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic (Secom), Paulo Pimenta, and the president of the Forum of the Brazilian Terrestrial Digital TV System (SBTVD), Raymundo Barros, participated in the opening of the event presentation and debate on TV 3.0 – new technological standard for the evolution of Digital TV – in the auditorium of the Ministry of Communications, in Brasília.

With TV 3.0, the choice of channels will be replaced by applications, which can provide content live or on demand. Interactivity will be the difference. Furthermore, the new technology promises image quality that can reach 8K, immersive sound, like in the cinema, and security and accessibility tools.

“You don’t need internet to access TV 3.0, which is open TV, free for the Brazilian population. It is a transmission with better image and sound quality, which will be transmitted to everyone. Interactivity is an additional attribute that will be made possible for those devices that are connected to the internet”, explained Communications Minister Juscelino Filho.

According to Jean Lima, the EBC has participated in the entire debate process on the acquisition of new technologies for TV 3.0, with the Communications Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic (Secom) and the Ministry of Communications, which coordinates the initiative. The intention is to guarantee equality in the distribution of channels and leave freedom of choice to viewers.

“For the public sector, TV 3.0 represents the possibility of including new actors and democratizing communication,” he stated.

During the event, minister Juscelino Filho signed two ordinances consigning the EBCfor the execution of radio broadcasting services in modulated frequency (FM) and Digital TV sound and images, in Brazilian cities and states, for educational purposes.

“There are already more than 100 new channels that will be able to bring education, science and accurate information to communities”, stated the president of EBC.

According to Jean Lima, since October 2023, 60 public universities and federal institutes have signed a cooperation agreement with the EBC, with the expectation of operating more than 150 new TV and FM radio stations. “This expansion also generates jobs, improves the training conditions of our professionals and guarantees the involvement of the industry and the local market, in addition to reinforcing the role of broadcasting as one of the central communication services”, he highlighted.
