Nintendo announced it with a post on X the end of support from the same social network on Nintendo Switch starting next month. For those who don’t know, X is the name given by the new ownership led by Elon Musk to the much better known Twitter.
Support will cease from June 10, 2024the date on which owners of the hybrid console will no longer be able to post images and videos to X from the console’s album and will also no longer be able to invite friend requests on X.
The end of support will affect several games, such as Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Splatoon 3 and Splatoon 2, which made use of it in some way.
The XGaming account that deals with video game themed collaborations on Elon Musk’s platform shared Nintendo’s post and commented on the matter, as you can see above. The tweet reads: “The gaming community is one of the largest and most vibrant on our platform and we are committed to improving and supporting gaming-related features, following Nintendo’s planned discontinuation of content sharing on Nintendo Switch’s X, the Starting June 11, users will be able to download Switch game content directly to their smartphones and share it natively on our platform.”
“Our partnership with Nintendo remains strong and we are working together to ensure a seamless transition for all users. We will continue to work with partners to bring new and exciting experiences to our global gaming community.”
It’s hard to say how many Nintendo Switch owners have used this feature. We imagine there won’t be many, since Mário’s house decided to cut it off completely. We’ll see if it returns with the Nintendo Switch 2.
