Sharp made the Aquos R9 official as its new premium cell phone this Wednesday (08). The model arrives on the Japanese market with a new processor, which is less powerful than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 used in the Aquos R8, but is prepared for future generative AI features that should arrive on board the next versions of Android.

Speaking of its specifications, the Aquos R9 is equipped with a larger screen than its predecessor, now measuring 6.5 inches, Pro-IGZO OLED technology, Full HD+ resolution (2,340 x 1,080 pixels), variable refresh rate from 1 Hz to 240 Hz and peak brightness of 1,500 nits. There is a hole at the top of the display that houses a 50.3 MP front camera.

At the rear, the cell phone has a dual camera system represented by the main lens with a 50.3 MP CMOS sensor, optical image stabilization (OIS) and f/1.9 lens aperture. There is also a wide-angle lens with the same 50.3 MP sensor and 122º field of view, bringing a focal length equivalent to 13 millimeters.

O performance is due to the Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 3 platform from Qualcomm, which has just arrived on the market to equip high-performance mid-range cell phones with support for AI processing. The hardware works together with 12 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256 GB of internal storage.

The battery has a capacity of 5,000 mAh. The supported charging power is not stated. Other specifications of the cell phone include its support for Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC and design protected against water and dust with IPX8, IP6X and MIL-STD-810G certifications. The Aquos R9 will come out of the box running Android 14.
