Apple is evaluating a possible collaboration with OpenAI to bring Artificial Intelligence (AI) capabilities to the iPhone 16, which is expected to be released in the second half of this year. The information comes from journalist Mark Gurman, from the news agency Bloomberg. If negotiations are successful, the smartphone should be the brand’s first model to incorporate generative AI features. However, Apple is still at the conversation table with OpenAI and Google to decide whether iOS 18, the iPhone’s next operating system, will rely on ChatGPT, Gemini or another third-party supplier.

In February, Apple CEO Tim Cook stated that the company would make a major announcement about incorporating the technology into existing product lines. Since then, Cook has been more outspoken about his goal of making resources available using AI. This week, the Bloomberg published that sources familiar with the brand’s negotiations have reported that Apple is looking to partner with a more established AI creator to formulate a chatbot on the iPhone 16, similar to OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Experts believe that such tools should drive growth in the company’s shares.
