In early April, the Google announced that by the end of 2024 Brazil will receive its Play Points rewards program, linked to the Play Pass subscription plan, from the Google Play store. With it, users accumulate points that can be exchanged for exclusive benefits, such as downloading and using free applications, making in-app purchases and participating in specific promotions.

Acquired points can be exchanged for Play Store credits, discount coupons (including within popular games, such as Roblox), movie rentals and special items within selected applications and games.

As they use their Play Points, users level up in a gamified system, ranging from Bronze to Diamond, which yield different degrees of rewards. The higher the rating, the more points the user earns. Users who reach Platinum level or higher also receive access to “premium” support.

It is up to developers to join the program and generate promotions for users, through a simplified platform. According to Google, Play Points help increase audience retention in apps and expand their user base. Revenue from the participating app can also increase by up to 30%, according to the company.

The program is currently active in 35 countries, including the United States and Portugal. The Play Points program is expected to launch in Brazil by the end of 2024.

The Play Points program is linked to the Google Play Pass subscription, which costs R$9.90 per month or R$89.99 per year (equivalent to R$7.49 per month). Once the subscription is up to date, when the service becomes available, users will be able to join the rewards program through their account profile.

Integration with Play Pass

Available in December 2020 in Brazil, Play Pass is a Google Play subscription plan that gives access to more than a thousand premium applications, without ads or additional purchases, in Android’s Play Store. Additionally, it also offers discounts on in-game purchases with in-game stores.

A Play Pass subscription can be shared with up to five members at no additional cost using the Family Library feature.
