Neuralink has just released a long presentation where it briefly shows patient Noland Arbaugh, 29, playing Mario Kart “with the power of his mind”. Noland lost movement in his body in an accident and is the first patient to have a Neuralink chip implanted in his brain.

In recent weeks, Neuralink released information that managed to connect the chip to a human’s brain for the first time. At the time, she revealed that Noland Arbaugh was selected to be the first human with the implant from Elon Musk’s company.

Noland Arbaugh himself posted a video on his social network in which he plays Mario Kart alongside his father. The content is an extensive conversation with Noland and Bliss Chapman, the company’s brain interface software leader and one of those responsible for the implant. The two show the game briefly, which you can see at minute 20:35 of the video below.

The images released by Neuralink show young Noland alongside his father, while they both play Nintendo’s Mario Kart 8. Unfortunately, the The images are brief and we only see the two from the back.

At another point, at 18:15 of the video, we see a dispute between Donkey Kong and Bowser, but the images are only from the TV. Here, Bliss Chapman states that Noland was the right fielder and “hit the other one squarely with the shot right there in the middle“.

Anything that makes me more independent, I’m all for it. This will probably make people like me more independent than they will ever be until everything is healed – and I think that’s a very real possibility

For now, it is difficult to say exactly that we are really seeing Noland control the video game with the Neuralink chip. Elon Musk, on the other hand, celebrated the company’s achievements. After the Neuralink chip implant surgery, the company also released a short video of Noland playing chess.

Likewise, Bliss Chapman and team reaffirmed their desire to release more information soon. Let’s hope that in the next demonstration, Musk’s company shows Noland playing with his brain more clearly.

It will be really interesting to know whether Neuralink’s results are really as impressive as they claim. If so, we could be facing a major revolution. Until then, it’s always good to keep expectations in check.
