iOS 18 may finally allow users to place app icons anywhere on the main screen. Just like on Android, iPhone owners will be able to place program shortcuts anywhere on the grid, said sources interviewed by the website MacRumors.

With the change, iPhone users could rearrange the icons however they prefer on the main screenleaving blank spaces or arranging applications in vertical rows, for example.

The addition is an interesting novelty for those looking for more customization on iOS. In addition to providing more space to create more intuitive main screens, the solution also allows the user to highlight the wallpaper.

For now, the ability to rearrange app icons on the main screen has not been confirmed. However, this was not the first time that the feature was mentioned by informants: also in March, Bloomberg analyst Mark Gurman mentioned that the new feature was in preparation, but without giving details about how it would work.

The biggest iOS update

iOS 18 is expected to be one of the biggest updates to Apple’s system. Internally named “Crystal”, the OS should mark the debut of several of Apple’s artificial intelligence (AI) tools — several built into Siri — and many other additions.

The rumors released so far indicate that the company’s ecosystem will embrace AI once and for allinserting generative tools into Apple Music, Shortcuts and more.

Announcement should take place in June

Fortunately, the mystery surrounding iOS 18 shouldn’t last long. Apple is expected to present the new operating system at WWDC 2024a company event focused on software, which usually takes place in June.
