Rio – World champion and gold medalist at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, surfer Italo Ferreira is on the front line to help flood victims in Rio Grande do Sul. The athlete arrived in Porto Alegre last Wednesday (8) and has been helping to rescue people and animals, as well as taking supplies to shelters.

Italo Ferreira joined Pedro Scooby, Lucas Chumbo and a team of volunteers, which includes other big wave surfers such as Willyam Santana, Ian Cosenza, Iankel Noronha, Felipe Cesarano and Michelle Bouillons. The group had already been providing help since last Monday (6), and managed to rescue hundreds of people and animals.
The world and Olympic champion traveled with a truck full of supplies. On social media, Italo Ferreira has reported the difficulties. The surfer defined the situation in Rio Grande do Sul as a “chaotic scenario full of challenges”. He also reported the difficulty convincing some people to abandon their homes.
