O Santos will face Amazonas this Saturday (11) for Serie B of the Brazilian Championship without counting defender Gil. The player is not injured, but the technical committee decided to preserve the defender to avoid physical wear and tear, considering the long trip to Manausdeparture location.

The 36-year-old player, who had been a starter in all of Santos’ games so far this season, was the outfield player with the most minutes on the field, but coach Fabio Carille opted to take him out of the “marathon” of more than 2 thousand kilometers of travel and four hours of plane travel.

To replace Gil, young Jair will be the starter. The Santos jewel returned to training recently, after being left out of Santos’ first two games in the second division due to a muscle injury.

Last year, Jair suffered an ACL injury in his right knee during a Copinha game in January, only returning towards the end of the season. This year he underwent a strengthening program to avoid new physical problems in the pre-season.

In addition to Gil, other confirmed absences are Pedrinho and Julio Furch, who are being spared to fully recover from pubalgia. Aderlan is also in transition as his right arm surgery heals.

Santos’ likely lineup is as follows: João Paulo; JP Chermont, Jair, Joaquim and Escobar; João Schmidt, Diego Pituca and Giuliano; Otero, Guilherme and Alfredo Morelos.

The Santos squad will carry out its last activity at the Manauara Esporte Clube CT this Friday (10). The match will take place at Arena da Amazônia at 5pm this Saturday.
