Paulo Salmin and Israel Stroh debut with victory in Slovenia

Doubles competitions began this Thursday (9) at the Slovenian Paralympic Table Tennis Open. In the competition held in the city of Lasko, two Brazilian partnerships took action. Paulo Salmin and Israel Stroh managed to debut with victory, while the other teams were defeated.

In the group stage of the MD4 class, Salmin and Stroh beat the pair formed by New Zealander Matthew Britz and North American Samuel Altshuler. The Brazilians’ victory came in straight sets, with partials of 11/6, 11/7 and 11/8.

Paulo Salmin and Israel Stroh return to the table this Friday (10), to play against the British Billy Shilton and Paul Karabardak in the second round. They then finish the group stage against the Poles Piotr Manturz and Michał Deigsler.

In the first phase of the MD18 class, Luiz Manara and Cláudio Massad also attended the table this Thursday. However, the Brazilian pair ended up being beaten by Belgians Laurens Devos and Marc Ledoux in 3 sets to 1 (11/3, 11/3, 6/11 and 11/5). They play against Americans Tahl Leibovitz and Logan Watson and then Maksym Nikolenko and Lev Kats from Ukraine.

International doubles

In the WD14 Class, Aline Menezes is paired with the Spanish Pilar Gonzalez. They ended up defeated in the first round by the French Morgen Caillaud and Lucie Hautiere, by 3 sets to 0. Now, they face the duo Zsofia Arloy Najlah Al Dayyeni, from Hungary and Iraq, and close against the Norwegians Merethe Tveiten and Aida Dahlen.

With the British Grace Williams, Lethicia Lacerda plays the second round against the Turkish Neslihan Kavas and Merve Demir. This Thursday, the pair lost in their debut to the Australian pair Na Lei Li and Qian Yang, in straight sets (11/3, 11/7 and 11/6).

In addition to the final rounds of the first phase of the Slovenian Paralympic Table Tennis Open in doubles, Friday will also mark the debut of mixed teams in the competition.
