With the victory, Palmeiras reached 10 points and remained isolated at the top of Group F of the Libertadores. Independiente del Valle, San Lorenzo and Liverpool-URU, all with four points, complete the group, in that order. The Brazilian team could even qualify for the round of 16 in this round, but San Lorenzo’s victory against Del Valle postponed the early classification.

Today’s triumph also guaranteed another milestone for Palmeiras under the command of Abel Ferreira. The result was Verdão’s first victory as a visitor against a Uruguayan team with the Portuguese coach. Now, the team has already beaten teams from all Libertadores countries playing away from home.

Palmeiras returns to the field next Sunday (12), when they will face Athletico-PR, at home, at 4pm (Brasília time), for the 6th round of the Brasileirão. The next match for the Libertadores will be next Wednesday (15), against Independiente del Valle, at Allianz Parque, at 9:30 pm. The following day, Liverpool-URU faces San Lorenzo, as a visitor, at 9pm.

How was the game

The 1st half was scary for Palmeiras, but there was also Raphael Veiga calibrated. In the first few minutes, Liverpool-URU took the lead, but Ocampo’s goal was disallowed for offside. With difficulties in breaking through the opponent’s defense, Verdão only faced danger with Veiga, who returned to the starting lineup after being rested in the last game. First, the number 23 stopped at the crossbar with a firm shot from outside the area. Just before the break, the midfielder tried another bomb, this time with a right, and opened the scoring for the Brazilians.

The final stage had new brilliance from Raphael Veiga, a penalty disallowed from Liverpool and goals from Endrick, Rony and Gustavo Gómez. Palmeiras returned to the second half controlling the game and, without forcing too much, reached the second goal, again with their number 23. The Uruguayans even had a chance to reduce the score, but had a penalty scored canceled after the VAR picked up a impediment in the bid. In the final stretch, Endrick, Rony and Gustavo Gómez (penalty) went to the net and turned the victory into a rout.
