Olympic volleyball champion with the Brazilian team, Pampa remains hospitalized at BP (Beneficência Portuguesa de São Paulo), since last April 19th, with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. In contact with Itatiaiathe hospital updated the former athlete’s health status.

Pampa, 59, is currently under care in the Intensive Care Unit. According to information provided to the report, the medical team classified her condition as stable.

Furthermore, it was informed that André Felippe Falbo receives all the necessary support to continue the treatment. However, there is no forecast for discharge from the ICU at this time. André Felippe Falbo Ferreira’s treatment has lasted around 4 months.

On April 19, Pampa was transferred from a hospital unit in Rio de Janeiro to Hospital Beneficência Portuguesa, in the center of São Paulo. He was escorted by the Federal Highway Police (PRF) of Congonhas to the hospital.

Hodgkin’s lymphoma

Hematologist at the Oncoclínicas Group, in Belo Horizonte, Dr. Caio César Ribeiro explained to Itatiaia that “Hodgkin’s Lymphoma is a type of cancer that affects the lymphatic system”. The disease tends to affect mainly young people, as is the case of Luana and Isabel, “although it has a second peak of incidence in people over 60 years of age”.

According to the doctor, the disease “corresponds to 0.5% of all types of cancer and usually presents with the growth of lymph nodes in the neck or armpits, these also popularly known as tongues. The disease can also affect the region close to the heart, known as the mediastinum, and can manifest itself with chest pain and fatigue.”

“It is a disease that has cure rates greater than 80-90% with treatment”, revealed the doctor. Treatment, according to the doctor, is carried out with chemotherapy, and in some cases may involve radiotherapy, with an average duration of between two and six months.

Born on November 24, 1964, André Felippe Falbo Ferreira won the gold medal at the Barcelona Games, for Brazilian Team Volleyball, in 1992.

Born in Recife-PE, Pampa was also a silver medalist at the 1991 Pan-American Games. In addition, he won gold at the 1993 World League in São Paulo.

Off the court, the former player worked at the Ministry of Sports from 2000 to 2002. Later, he was also Secretary of Sports for the city of Suzano, in São Paulo.

In 2013, Pampa was appointed Secretary of Sports for the city of Campos dos Goytacazes-RJ. The former athlete juggled his role with Pampa Sports, his sports, cultural and entertainment marketing company.
