O Bahia will face Botafogo in a game valid for the fifth round of the Brasileirão, this Sunday (5). On the opposing side, there will be an old acquaintance of Tricolor fans.
Former Bahia starter and one of the fans’ favorites between 2018 and 2020, midfielder Gregore returned to Brazilian football this year to wear the Botafogo shirt and has already played 13 games for the new club.
In the midweek game, for the Copa do Brasil, the midfielder was a starter and after the match won against Vitória, he remembered his times in Bahia.
“It’s triumph (laughs). I’m used to saying triumph, right? Since the time I played for Bahia, but now playing for Botafogo we no longer have that rivalry.”
Talking about this Sunday’s game, against Esquadrão de Aço, Gregore talks about defending the shirt he is wearing at the moment.
“My heart is now Botafoguense, right? I defend Botafogo’s colors now. My time at Bahia was very good, but now my head is here”.
Since leaving Bahia, Gregore came close to returning to Bahia on two occasions. In 2023, the Tricolor board opened negotiations with Inter Miami, but there was no agreement.
The same happened at the end of 2023, when the Squadron made a purchase offer that was not accepted for the United States team, despite the player having signaled interest in returning to Bahia.
With no agreement to return to Tricolor de Aço, Botafogo, in turn, agreed to pay what the North American club asked for and repatriated the midfielder.
Gregore competes for a place in the Botafoguense starting team with Marlon Freitas, Danilo Barbosa, Tchê Tchê, Jacob Montes and Patrick de Paula. If he takes the field, it will be the first time he faces Bahia professionally.
