Marco Reus will leave Borussia Dortmund after 12 seasons.

The German club announced last Friday (03) that the striker will not have his contract renewed at the end of the season.

“I am extremely grateful and proud for this special moment at my club, Borussia Dortmund. I have spent more than half my life at this club and I have enjoyed every day, although there have been difficult moments. I knew it would be difficult to say goodbye at the end of the season. And yet, I am happy that there is now clarity and that we can fully focus on the important final games that are still pending. We have a big goal in mind and we all want to achieve it together. To do this we need each and every one of our incredible fans, who I would like to expressly thank for their incredible support over the years,” said Reus in a message released by the club.

Reus spent most of his life at Borussia Dortmund. From 1995 to 2005, he played for the youth teams, before moving to Borussia Monchengladbach. In the 2012-13 season, he returned to his favorite club to follow a path of idolatry.

In total, there are 424 games wearing the yellow and black shirt, 168 goals scored and 100 assists distributed to teammates.

In addition, he won the German Cup and the German Super Cup twice.

CEO of Dortumund, Hans-Joachim Watzke elected Reus as one of the greatest players in the club’s history, praised the journey made by the striker throughout all his years serving the club and left the door open for the player to take on an off-field role when he decides hang up your boots.

“Marco Reus is one of the greatest players at this club. He was born in Dortmund, played almost ten years in the youth teams, was in the professional team for twelve years and was captain of our team for a long time. His connection to Borussia Dortmund is extraordinary. We wish Marco all the best for his future.
