Starting this Saturday (4), Brazil will compete in the World Relay Championship in Nassau, in the Bahamas. The competition takes place at the Thomas A. Robinson National Stadium until next Sunday (5) and is a qualifier for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The Brazilian team, made up of 22 athletes and five teams, leaving from Florida (USA) and São Paulo, traveled to the event headquarters last Thursday (2). Check out the full call for action here.

Members of the men’s 4x100m relay traveled from the United States to the Bahamas. The team that will seek the medal, as well as the Olympic place, will include: Erik Cardoso, Felipe Bardi, Gabriel dos Santos Garcia, Rodrigo Pereira do Nascimento, Paulo André Camilo and Renan Gallina.

“We had a good campsite in Florida, with good facilities and logistics for training and meals. The choice was very assertive because we also found a good level of competition, with strong series. We did good training, with progress in the speed at which we passed the baton, and we are confident in our objective, which is an Olympic place”, said Victor Fernandes, coach-coordinator for the Brazilian Athletics Confederation (CBAt).

4x100m women’s

For the women’s 4x100m relay, sprinters Ana Azevedo, Gabriela Silva Mourão, Lorraine Martins and Vitória Rosa traveled, as well as Gabriela Aline Grunow. Anny Caroline de Bassi was selected for the three women’s 4x100m and 4x400m and mixed 4x400m relays. Even so, she will be selected on the 400m team.

“Vitória Rosa has been achieving good results at the start of the season, as has Ana Azevedo and this only makes our work easier. Together with the other girls, Lorraine Martins returning from injury and now in good form, we believe in a good performance”, commented coach Renan da Mota Valdiero.

The World

The Bahamas World Cup will qualify 14 teams for the Paris Olympic Games in August. The criteria established by World Athletics (International Federation) aims to give countries more opportunities to qualify. ‘Round 1′ has 32 participating teams divided into four series. The top two from each, eight teams, guarantee an Olympic spot, as well as advancing to the World Relays Championship. In addition, the remaining 24 teams will have the opportunity to participate in ’round 2′ of competitions that will qualify six more quartets, two per series.
