Muricy Ramalho predicted difficulties for Tite at Flamengo

Flamengo was booed off the field after the victory. The red-and-black commander begins the crisis. The coach from Rio Grande do Sul is criticized by fans for the “unambitious” style he likes to implement in his teams. His fame returned after he got out of trouble with the brilliant Corinthians in 2015.

Tite doesn’t have the same spirit as Flamengo. Winning 1-0, finishing less than the opponent and playing for the ball are characteristics that Mengão fans don’t like. The difficulties Tite is going through were predicted by another Brazilian football legend.

Muricy Ramalho, three-time Brazilian champion with São Paulo between 2006 and 2008, winner of the Libertadores with Fluminense in 2010 and Santos in 2011, commented in an interview that some clubs have a fixed identity. Flamengo would be one of them, the former coach said:’

— At Flamengo, you don’t have to win by playing ugly! The fans don’t accept it. They always want to attack, he commented.

Five years later, in the same interview, Muricy also made a warning that appears to be directed at Tite. Today technical coordinator of Tricolor São Paulo, he said:

— Flamengo and Santos are the two clubs where the fans do not accept playing in defense. For a ball. And there’s no point in trying to change that. The guys will get you out of there, he concluded.

Tite this Wednesday completed 200 days in charge of Flamengo against Amazonas FC. The coach managed to secure a place in the Libertadores, but did not fight for the Brasileirão 2023 title. In 2024, he managed to remain undefeated and goalless as a starter to win the state championship, but currently his performance has declined.

The performance in the Brasileirão and Libertadores is below expectations. The defense, which seemed to be solid and without conceding a goal, started conceding one goal per game. In the last two matches against Bolívar and Botafogo, two goals were scored in each match. And that’s not all, the attack stopped working. Against Alvinegro, the ball didn’t go into the goal. Even against Amazonas FC, the team did not perform as expected, scoring just 1 and thus arousing the ire of the fans.
