Nor Erling Haalandnor Kevin de Bruyne. This Friday (3), the Football Writers Association (FWA) elected Phil Foden as the Men’s Soccer Player of the Year.

At 23 years old, the attacking midfielder revealed in the English club’s youth categories scored 24 goals and distributed 10 assists so far in the current season, gaining prominence, above all, due to the injury of the Belgian midfielder.

Foden won the award with 42% of the votes of the members of the FWA and became the third City player in the last four years to be named Men’s Footballer of the Year, after defender Rúben Dias won the award in 2021 and striker Erling Haaland last season.

Foden was competing for the award with midfielder Rodri, a City teammate, and midfielder Declan Riceof Arsenal.

“Being named Football Player of the Year Football Writers Association It’s a great honor. I am very, very happy to receive this award, but I could not have done it without the help of my teammates,” Foden said in a statement.

Manchester City received yet another award at the ceremony. Jamaican striker Khadija Shaw was named Women’s Footballer of the Year, with 53% of votes, a historic record in the awards. The player surpassed Lauren James, from Chelseaand fellow club member Alex Greenwood.
