The Cruzeiro Deliberative Council unanimously approved the accounts for the 2023 financial year, with a debt of almost R$749.2 million and a record surplus of R$591.4 million. The meeting took place this Tuesday (30/4), at Clube Cruzeiro Barro Preto, in Belo Horizonte, and was attended by 182 counselors.

The vote had a light atmosphere, marked by rounds of applause during the performance of Cruzeiro’s anthem and mutual praise between counselors and leaders of the civil association. Despite the unanimity, there were reservations. One person praised the plan, but expressed concern about the clarity of some of the information presented.

What did they say about Cruzeiro’s Judicial Recovery?

President of the association until the end of 2023, Sérgio Santos Rodrigues spoke in a celebratory tone for progress in accountability. The balance sheet presented was the last of his management, which began in May 2020.

Sérgio was succeeded in the position by his former deputy, Lidson Postch (2024 – 2026). The doctor and newest president of Cruzeiro was also present and spoke about the recovery process.

Lidson also made a mention of Biagio Teodoro Peluso, former VP of the club who died in December 2020, while in office, due to complications from COVID-19.

“We were very happy with the outcome of the meeting, which demonstrated that the restructuring work carried out three years ago was arduous. We took Cruzeiro in 2020, with a billion dollar debt, in the middle of a pandemic, and unfortunately we were unable to bring the sporting result. But the challenge was much greater outside the four lines. Now we close the 2023 administration and (this cycle) of Sérgio’s presidency. It was a very difficult administration, but very successful. This is the balance we make”

Edinho Potsch, current vice-president of Cruzeiro
