What a Caroline Santos moment! Two competitions in Estonia, two medals. This time, the fighter won the silver medal at the President’s Cup Europe. The campaign saw victory over the world champion and leader of the ranking. The Brazilian achieves another important result in the up to 67kg category among the best with little time left until the Olympic Games.
Previously, Caroline competed in the Tallin Open, a kind of preview of this Saturday’s competition (27), and won gold. Now, the Brazilian confirmed her good form with another podium in the European country. In the first fight, Caroline defeated the German Viviana Valentino, seed number 10 of the tournament, by 2-1. The Brazilian, seed 7, had, above all, a lot of determination and technique in the quarterfinals.
This is because she defeated Belgian Sarah Chaari, world champion in 2022, and current leader of the world rankings. In this way, Caroline scored 2-0 against her opponent and advanced to the semifinals of the tournament. Once again, the competition was tough against Chinese Jie Song, who has already won the Grand Prix, Grand Slam and the Military World Games.

However, Caroline took no notice and beat the Chinese again, repeating the final from the previous tournament. However, this time, without losing a single round, she scored 2-0 to go on to the decision. Mengyu Zhang, world champion in 2019 and number 5 in the Olympic ranking, was the Brazilian’s tormentor in the final, defeating her 2-1. It was the rematch right after Caroline had beaten the Chinese in the semifinals of the open tournament.
The most important thing was the resourcefulness that Caroline showed in her fights and the consistency in her physical and mental preparation after being away from the mat for five months, overcoming an injury that threatened her Olympic place in Paris.
