Rome Italy) – Diego Schwartzman’s last participation in the Masters 1000 in Rome came to an end this Wednesday. After having gone through two rounds of qualifying, the Argentinian bowed out in the main draw debut, beaten by Australian Aleksandar Vukic, who scored a double 6/2.

In Rome, Schwartzman achieved the best Masters 1000 results of his career. He was semi-finalist in 2019 and runner-up in 2020. Former number 8 in the world, the 31-year-old Argentine currently appears in 142nd place in the rankings and plans to end his professional career at the beginning of 2025 in Buenos Aires.

Schwartzman’s tormentor this Wednesday, Vukic is 28 years old and occupies 70th place in the ranking. The Australian, who is still looking for his first victory against the top 10, now challenges German Alexander Zverev, number 5 in the world and champion of the tournament in 2017. Zverev won the only previous duel, held at last year’s US Open.

Also this Wednesday, in one of the last games of the round before the rain stoppage, the Frenchman from the quali Terence Atmane, 137th in the ranking, defeated the North American Christopher Eubanks, 43rd in the world, by double 6/4. Atmane faces Italian Lorenzo Musetti in the second round.
