To understand the calculations, Neo Química Arena generated R$66.8 million in revenue in 2023, including sponsorships (naming rights and commercial explorations). After deducting expenses, R$46.8 million remains as a positive result for the Arena.

The problem is that the Caixa loan requires the payment of R$97.8 million – four installments per year of around R$25 million. The negative account for the arena, therefore, would be R$51 million.

In reality, the stadium does generate enough money to pay the bill as long as the box office is taken into account. Game revenue was R$91 million. After deducting expenses, R$50.9 million remains, transferred to the fund that manages the arena.

All together, the arena has income of R$157.8 million, and total expenses of R$157.9 million. In other words, enough was raised to pay for the stadium.

But, without box office revenue, Corinthians goes from a small surplus to a loss. In the end, considering the arena, the club was in the red by R$50 million.

Not by chance: Corinthians debt increased in some items, such as taxes and image exploitation. Worse, the 2024 balance sheet also records a significant increase in debt to suppliers.
