Red Bull Racing driver Max Verstappen commented at an event in China about the possibility of his children pursuing a career in motorsport. The 26-year-old Dutchman admits the chance, but emphasizes that he won’t force it.

Verstappen received training from his father, former Formula 1 driver, Jos Verstappen from an early age. However, Max does not plan to replicate the same process with his future heirs, although he does not completely rule out the idea. “I would advise you not to be a pilot. It’s less stressful. I don’t know. If he or she wants to run and I see potential, then I would support it. I would be like my father did to me, but I would never actively pressure him.”

The pilot paves the way for his father to return to a mentoring role in the future. “If my son wants it and I see that he has potential, my father will probably support him, but we shouldn’t pressure our children into something we like.”

Verstappen ended his reasoning with a sensible consideration: “They need to come to me and tell me what they want to do. It’s an important decision. If you pressure your child into something, they may not enjoy it as much and may not become determined enough to succeed. All the effort invested would be in vain”, concluded the Dutchman.
