Brazil continues to break marks in men’s tennis with its campaign at the Masters 1000 in Madrid, Spain. After placing three players in the bracket of a tournament of this size in 14 years, now the mark is over 21 years.

Since the 2003 Miami tournament, three Brazilians have not reached the second round of a tournament of this size. According to Pedro Melo, Gustavo Kuerten got there with a bye in the first round and didn’t even need to win. Fernando Meligeni passed to the second phase as did Flávio Saretta. Everyone ended up surpassed in the second phase.

Brazil has never managed to advance with three tennis players in the third round of a Masters 1000. This occurred three years in 1999 with Gustavo Kuerten and Fernando Meligeni in Monte Carlo with Guga beating Meligeni and in Rome, a tournament where Meligeni defeated Pete Samptas and Guga was the champion .

In 2000, Guga and Meligeni appeared together again in the third round of Miami. Fino lost to Russian Yevgeni Kafelnikov and Guga fo lost in the final to Sampras.
