Santos returns to host a challenger after eight years

Santos (SP) – After eight years, the Santos Brasil Tennis Cup is back and will be held from May 5th to 12th at Tênis Clube de Santos. The tournament is part of the ATP Challenger Tour and will distribute US$41,000 in prize money (around R$210,000). The champion will also gain 50 points in the world rankings.

In this edition, tennis players from 12 countries will be competing, including the last champion, in 2016, Renzo Olivo. The Argentine will be the only one to try for a second title on the coast of São Paulo. Among the Brazilians, Matheus Pucinelli, João Lucas Reis, Pedro Sakamoto and Mateus Alves are confirmed in the main draw so far – a number that could increase with the six qualifying spots and the three invitations from the organization.

For six years, Santos fans were able to watch the games of big names in Brazilian and international tennis, such as Thiago Monteiro, runner-up in 2016; Gastão Elias, Portuguese who won in 2013; the Czech Ivo Minar, champion in 2012, among others.

The Challengers are important events for Brazilian players and being in a place with tradition in the sport only enhances the competition”, says Danilo Marcelino, director of the tournament.
