UFC lightweight champion (70 kg), Islam Makhachev will put the title on the line for the third time against Dustin Poirier, in June, in New Jersey (USA), and is already approaching his potential opponents. In fact, the Russian weighed in on Max Holloway’s situation in the category.

In April, the former featherweight champion (66 kg) moved up to lightweight to face Justin Gaethje and, despite being the underdog, he surprised, winning by knockout. In this way, the American won the ‘BMF’ belt (toughest fighter) and took ninth place in the category’s ranking, getting close to competing for the title. But, according to Makhachev, the athlete, despite his achievement, his popularity and reputation, will need to do more to challenge him.

If Holloway beats a few more guys in my division, we can fight. I don’t want to give him a chance now, because I have some opponents I need to beat. Now, I have Poirier, then Tsarukyan. I think I will have some work in my division and he has work in his. Maybe if he wins the next fight, if he beats Topuria and I finish both of my fights“, declared the UFC champion, to the ‘New York Post’ website.
