Rio – The Court of Sports Anti-Doping Justice (TJD-AD) ordered on March 25th the two-year suspension of Gabigol, from Flamengo, for attempted fraud in the anti-doping test. According to “ge”, the auditors were unanimous that the player had behaved inappropriately, being “rude” and “rude” towards the collectors, but they disagreed on the punishment.

The voting was close. The vote of the president of the court, João Antonio de Albuquerque e Souza, was the last and decided Gabigol’s conviction. The president highlighted that the player “left no doubt about an intention to prevent the collection and to affect or make analysis of the sample impossible” and classified the penalty as “the sum of four non-conformity behaviors”.

The case rapporteur was Daniel Chierighini. He highlighted that Gabigol’s behavior “may work against the athletes.” Among the four votes against the suspension is that of the vice-president of the court, Selma Fátima Melo Rocha. She pointed out that the collectors’ testimonies were “full of contradictions and take away all credibility” from the Brazilian Doping Control Association.

Gabigol awaits the judgment of the suspensive effect at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). Three referees participate in the trial: one appointed by the athlete’s defense; one appointed by the Brazilian Doping and Control Authority (ABCD); and one appointed by CAS. The trial can take place at any time. The parties will be notified of the outcome through an official court announcement.
