Defender Raul Gustavo made life difficult for Corinthians after being sent off against Argentino Juniors, on Tuesday night, the 23rd, in the Copa Sudamericana. In a tackle against striker Perelló who ended up on the side, Timão’s number 34 gets into an argument, pushes and hits the assistant referee in the face.

The move took place 13 minutes into the second half of the match, at the Diego Armando Maradona stadium, in Buenos Aires.. On social media, fans were outraged by the defender’s attitude, which ended up missing the team. “The defender’s stupidity is inexplicable,” wrote one internet user.

Raul Gustavo was on loan at Bahia and returned to Timão at the beginning of 2024. Since then, he has played in six matches for Corinthians, accumulated one assist, two yellow cards and, now, one red card.

The setback for Argentino Juniors knocked Corinthians out of first place in Group F of the South American Championship. The Argentine club took the lead, with six points, while Timão came in second, with 4 points. The club returns to play in the continental tournament on May 7th, at 7pm, against Nacional (PAR).
