O Throw! contacted doctor Michael Simoni, former Fluminense and Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), who explained it in a way that fans could understand. According to the expert, Allan does not have the same ability to breathe and carry oxygen to the body, which could put the driver at risk.

There is a disease called sickle cell anemia, where the red blood cells have a different shape, consequently, in layman’s terms, they have difficulty carrying oxygen to parts of the body. When a person has sickle cell trait, it does not mean that they have sickle cell anemia, but they genetically have an approximation trait for this disease. A lack of oxygen can lead to difficulty for these red blood cells to carry oxygen throughout the body.

– The decision was very intelligent on the part of the Medical and Physiology Department in preserving the player’s integrity and not taking any risks. He (Allan) would be an athlete with difficulty carrying oxygen and, if you are going to play at 4000 (meters of altitude) there is a tendency for a lack of oxygenation.
