An old acquaintance of Santos fans was one of the highlights of the first round of the Copa Libertadores group stage. Attacking midfielder Daniel scored the equalizer in Millonarios’ 1-1 draw against Flamengo, on Tuesday night, in Colombia.

The goal ended Flamengo’s run of 12 games without conceding a goal and ended the record unbeaten run of goalkeeper Rossi, who spent 1,134 minutes without conceding a goal during the season.

O Santos signed Daniel Ruiz in February 2023 as a big bet for the season, but he failed to thrive at the club. In total, the midfielder played in 19 games, and distributed two assists, without scoring goals.

The player was removed from the squad on July 4th, after the arrival of coach Paulo Turra, and terminated his contract on August 4th. The midfielder’s loan contract with Peixe was valid until the end of 2023, and had a purchase option set at US$4 million (approximately R$20 million at the current price).
