Darlan achieves incredible milestone and breaks record in defeat in the Superliga < No Attack

A name that tends to mark generations of volleyball fans: Darlan Ferreira Souza. The 21-year-old opposite of Sesi Bauru and the Brazilian team achieved an incredible milestone in the defeat to Araguari by 3 sets to 2, on Monday (1/4), at Arena Paulo Skaf, breaking a record in the Men’s Volleyball Superliga and further consolidated himself as one of the best players in Brazil.

Darlan’s impressive performance featured 18 points in the second set alone and ended with 41 points, the maximum score for a player in a match in the current edition of the Superliga. He beat the record of opposite Franco, from Guarulhos, who previously scored 40 points in a game.

Born on June 24, 2002, in Rio de Janeiro, Darlan is one of the great names in the new generation of Brazilian volleyball. He was a highlight of the Brazilian team in the Pre-Olympics, held in October 2023, a competition that guaranteed a place for Team Brazil in Paris, a place that should feature the athlete’s performances from July onwards, at the Olympic Games.

The call-up has not yet been announced by coach Bernardinho, of course, but Darlan’s presence at the 2024 Olympics is seen as certain due to the athlete’s good form. The opposite is the player who scored the most in the Superliga – 454 points, 38 more than second place – and who made the most aces – 46 accurate serves, 14 more than the runner-up in the ranking.

However, Darlan’s performance failed to leverage Sesi Bauru’s collective performance to win game one of the Superliga quarter-finals. Even as a visitor, Araguari surprised and won by 3 sets to 2 (25/16, 35/33, 21/25, 17/25 and 15/11).

Now, the team from São Paulo, with the presence of the highlight of the Men’s Volleyball Super League, will take the court again on Friday (5/4), at 6:30 pm, at Arena Sicoob Aracoop, in Araguari, against the team from Triângulo Mineiro.
