Duel for the Copa do Nordeste takes place next week at the Arena
The recent attack against the Fortaleza delegation that left six players injured and a history of fights between fans involving teams from Ceará and Pernambuco motivated the Ceará Football Federation (FCF) to request the Superior Court of Sports Justice (STJD) so that the duel between Sport and Ceará, for the Nordestão quarter-finals, is not held in Pernambuco or behind closed doors.
And in view of the FCF’s request, the STJD this Tuesday summoned Sport, the Pernambuco Football Federation (FPF) and the Military Police of Pernambuco so that, within 24 hours, they could “express themselves regarding the feasibility of holding the match with the absolute safety of the candidate team and their fans, or, alternatively, the possibility of playing behind closed doors and/or in another location”.
In contact with the NE45, just last week, Mauro Carmélio, president of the FCF, had already said that the federation and Ceará would take measures regarding the safety of the match, but that a change of venue would not be requested.
FPF speaks out on STJD subpoena: “theatrical staging”
In view of the FCF’s request and the STJD’s subpoena, the NE45 he also sought out the president of the FPF, Evandro Carvalho, who, in a very calm tone, analyzed the situation as a “theatrical performance” on the part of the president and “friend” Mauro Carmélio, and said he was calm about the case.
“I define it with one phrase: theatrical staging. The president of FCF, my dear friend Mauro, is seeking self-promotion. The request is ridiculous. I accept that lawyers submit to signing this type of request. It’s really surprising. But the concern regarding this is zero”, declared Evandro.
Sport x Ceará
Sport and Ceará will face each other on April 10th or 11th, according to the basic competition table published by the CBF, which will also detail the schedule. The quarter-finals take place in a single game, with the match being played at the home of the team with the best campaign in the first phase. In this case, the Pernambuco Arena.
Whoever wins advances to the semi-finals, while a possible draw takes the dispute to penalties. Whoever passes in the duel between Pernambuco and Ceará will face the winner of Fortaleza and Altos-PI in the semifinals.
