At 22 years old and 2.01 tall, Brazilian Kamilla Cardoso announced that she will be in the 2024 WNBA Draft. The South Carolina Gamecocks pivot posted a message on her social media this Monday, thanking her family, coaches and teammates team for their support, and talking about the decision to try out for the Women’s American Basketball League.

– I would like to thank my family for the sacrifice of letting a 14-year-old girl cross the world to pursue her dreams and for their unconditional love and support. To my teammates, who I consider my sisters, this journey has been something I will remember for the rest of my life. Together we did incredible things and created a bond that no one can take away from us. To my techniques, his guidance, mentoring and unwavering support were fundamental in shaping me as a player and as a person. I am eternally grateful for the impact you have had on my life – recorded Kamilla.

Kamilla has caught the world’s attention in her college league games, the NCAA. The pivot scored the three decisive points in the victory in the Southeastern Conference semifinal against the University of Tennessee, in the last second of the match, and earned congratulations from basketball legend, Magic Johnson. The University of South Carolina, the player’s franchise, won the tournament, with an undefeated campaign of 32 games.

Kamilla’s team coach, renowned former player Dawn Staley, commented on the player’s Instagram post:

If chosen, Camila will be alongside two other Brazilians in the league: forward Damiris Dantas, who announced in February her return to the WNBA with the Indiana Fever, and Stephanie Soares, fourth pick in the 2023 Draft, who plays for the Dallas Wings .
