The renewal of defender Arboleda’s contract with São Paulo, signed last Monday night, was widely celebrated by the club’s directors.
The Tricolor top brass not only celebrated the maintenance of the technical quality of the squad’s defense but also stopped a possible (and imminent) real attack by several Brazilian clubs, including a direct rival: Corinthians.
According to what I found out, with his short contract, the Ecuadorian had been receiving inquiries from the black and white club in recent months. Interest intensified with the change of presidency at Parque São Jorge, which saw the defender as a strong name to mark the first year of the new administration.
The complex renovation involved months of work, had a period of turbulence and depended on several factors linked more to the player than to São Paulo itself, but it was completed successfully.
One of the pillars of this São Paulo, Arboleda has 264 games for Tricolor, with the title of the 2021 Campeonato Paulista, the 2023 Copa do Brasil and the Supercopa Rei, won in February against Palmeiras.
