Spanish team goalkeeper fights with fan after suffering racism

When asked why he was apologizing, since he was the victim of the racist act, the goalkeeper admitted his discomfort at the insults he heard from the stands in the clash against Sestao River. But he reiterated that he would like to apologize for the reaction of going to the fans who were prejudiced.

– This irritates me a lot, but you need to have a little respect and I think it’s the right thing to do. If you are the victim, you have to apologize to the world of football – he pointed out.

The match was suspended 45 minutes into the second half after Sarr’s team refused to return to the field. Sarr received support from his teammates after being a victim of racism. The Senegalese goalkeeper’s team was trailing 2-1 when the game was stopped.

Sarr said he hopes the episode can help bring about a change in stance against racism in football. And he pointed out that he “already knows how to react” if he is again insulted in a racist manner during a match, saying that it was not the first time he was a victim of prejudice and mentioning that he “couldn’t handle” the fans’ screams.

– The worst moment was when he insulted me. My intention was to jump up and talk to him, catch him, find out if he had a family and ask why. It was someone older, I think he had a child and should be an example – she commented.

The goalkeeper is still at risk of being suspended for up to eight games after going to the stands to react to racist acts, as he was sent off by the match referee.

– My reaction to the referee was not aggressive. I went to tell him why he wasn’t there, and he gave me the red card. I wanted to do this with all the respect in the world. Again, I think you should ask the victim first. I wanted to ask what the red card was for. After the game, a few hours later, we met to talk about what happened.
