Idol of Cruzeiro and Flamengo, Raul Plassmann blasted coach Fernando Diniz, from Fluminense. In an interview with Charla Podcast this Monday (1), the former goalkeeper provoked coaches who ask their athletes to exchange passes inside the area. For him, such professionals are incompetent and irresponsible.

“Only the incompetent think it’s an advantage to play in the small area with the team on your neck. I’ll love it if I’m a striker. I don’t want you to get kicked out. (…) You are close to their goal. They will make the mistake. There are more than 100 wrong exits from goalkeepers and defenders. Because they are robots. They do what the coach wants”, said Raul.

“It’s unproductive. Irresponsible thing. Even ace makes mistakes. Marcelo, with less than a minute left, gives me a pass like that. As? Because it was closed, they were on top. Losing the game 4-0 and trying to come out from behind pretty well. It’s very irresponsible. I go crazy. And there are jobs for all of them, just not for me. I, with all this knowledge, have no job”, he concluded.

The move mentioned by Raul happened in last year’s Club World Cup final, between Fluminense and Manchester City. Left-back Marcelo was pressured by the opposing team and missed a pass just 30 seconds into the game. The English team regained possession of the ball and opened the scoring. At the end of the game, Tricolor Carioca was defeated 4-0.

Raul Plassmann

In addition to his career as a player, Raul Plassmann worked as a coach, but without success. The first experience was in 1987, under the command of Cruzeiro. Later, in 2003, he took over Juventude, where he was again unable to play. Still in 2004, the former goalkeeper took over Londrina as manager.
