Pato O’Ward already knows he wants to build a future in F1. The Mexican highlighted that he aims to reach the category’s grid in the not too distant future, but also recognized that it is necessary to have the right chance to make everything work out.

Currently, the competitor holds the role of reserve driver for McLaren, in addition to reaping good results with the team in Indy. However, he wants to leave the United States to make his debut in Europe, but he knows he doesn’t have that much time left.

“As soon as I turn 27, I want to be in Formula 1. I’m 25 this year, and as much as I want to stay well until I’m 30, there are people behind me younger than me,” he said in an interview with ESPN.

“I can be better, or have more experience. If they can train someone, they won’t choose me. You need to be in shape if you want to have a future in F1. But once you are 27 or 28 years old, it becomes quite difficult”, he highlighted.

“If this doesn’t work in three years, it won’t happen. It’s true that in an F1 test I showed that I have enough qualities to be there, but if I don’t get the chance, it’s difficult to maintain motivation”, he added.
