Almost five months later, Botafogo x Palm trees, played in November 2023, could still generate more problems. The Superior Court of Sports Justice scheduled the Plenary judgment for April 9, at 3 p.m., in which the SAF shareholder John Textorsocial vice president Vinicius Assumpção and the defender Adryelson can be punished.
At the end of February, the Attorney General’s Office STJD asked for a reform of the sentence, asking for greater punishment for John Textor and Adryelson, now from Lyon. Deputy Attorney General João Marcos Guimarães Siqueira asks for greater penalties for the businessman (who received a preventive suspension of 35 days and a fine of R$25,000, but obtained a suspensive effect) and the defender, who for the body should be condemned under article 250 I, which it is about “preventing in any way, contrary to the rules of the game, a clear opportunity to score a goal, score or equivalent”. Vinicius Assumpção was another preventatively suspended for 30 days at the time.
The deputy prosecutor also requested an increase in the penalty of R$5,000 to Botafogo for objects thrown on the lawn. He argues that the income from the match was high (R$ 1,272,290.00 at the time.
In parallel, John Textor is still being denounced by the STJD for not having provided the body with evidence of corruption in Brazilian football. Rapporteur Mauro Marcelo de Lima e Silva even asked for automatic suspension, but the Plenary did not approve it. The American businessman considers that the Sports Court is not competent and will make a formal complaint to the Public Ministry.
