Atlético’s new coach, Gabriel Milito was an opponent and partner of Ronaldinho Gaúcho, one of Galo’s greatest idols. In one of these several meetings, there were also relaxed moments, as the Argentine said during a presentation this Wednesday (27/3).

Milito showed he has a great memory by listing all the times he had to mark the former Atlético player. As a defender, he faced the Brazilian star in national team games, in South American and Spanish football.

“No (I talked to him). I haven’t spoken to Ronaldinho, but he’s a great friend. We’ve been playing against each other since we were 15 years old. We are the same age. Argentina x Brazil in the under-17, under-20, under-23… Grêmio and Independiente, Copa Mercosul in 1998 or 1999”, he began.

“In 2003, he signed with Barcelona. I signed with Real Madrid. I didn’t pass the medical examination for my knee, and then I signed with Real Zaragoza. I spent four seasons at Zaragoza, and Ronny had five seasons at Barcelona. In these four seasons of mine at Zaragoza and his at Barcelona, ​​we played two league games every year (eight in total) and in three seasons we faced each other in the Copa del Rey, in Spain. Six games. In other words, we played against them 14 times”, he continued.

After facing him so much, Ronaldinho was happy with Gabriel Milito’s arrival at Barcelona in 2007, and played with his new teammate.

“When I arrived at Barcelona, ​​I remember he gave me a hug and said: ‘Gabi, we’re finally going to play together. So you don’t hit me anymore’ (laughs). It’s a story. But like, he’s a boy… As a footballer, we don’t need to talk. But as a person: extraordinary! I love it very much and I hope that one day I can come visit us”, revealed Milito, who was a colleague of the Brazilian star for one season at the Spanish giant.

In addition to asking for Ronaldinho’s visit, Atlético’s new coach reported the great relationship and how the two already treated each other well, even as rivals.

“He was an impressive player, and we had to control him in some way – often, beating him up (laughs). The last time we faced each other, it was kisses and hugs. We already had a relationship. As rivals, we were already friends”, he concluded.
